The title of the episode is a play on the old saying "there is no place like home".
"There's No Disgrace Like Home " is an early episode, showing early designs for a few recurring characters.
In this episode, Homer and his family go to a company picnic at Mr. Burns's manor. Things are not going too good as his family starts to embarrass him, and Mr. Burns (his boss) seems to favour a family who love and respect one another.
After this catastrophic picnic, Homer takes action and decides to take the family to a therapist.
The therapist (Dr. Marvin Monroe) tries his best to solve their problems but eventually gives up and refunds their payment.
When standard methods prove to be useless in civilizing the family, Monroe resorts to shock therapy and wire the Simpsons to electrodes. Soon the Simpsons start shocking one another and cause Springfield to lose power.
